Penumbrage 
We had a cat we called Penumbra (Pen for short, sometimes Kitty Pen for longer) who, though feral, was fastidious about keeping her appearance, that is, she kept her white fur gleaming.
7 years plus later…..reading this comment brightens my day, which happens to be in dire need of brightening.
